Documents to send to Service Ontario to obtain an authorization letter to get married
If you are planning to get married in Ontario and you were divorced outside of Canada, you must obtain a letter of authorization from the government before a marriage licence may be issued.
The documents you will need to send to Service Ontario in order to obtain that authorization letter are:
- Marriage Licence signed by the couple getting married with ink signatures
- Statement of Sole Responsibility form, signed in ink by the couple getting married and a witness
- Original Divorce Certificate or a court certified copy (scanned copies or photocopies are not accepted)
- Original Certified Translation (if applicable), ink stamped and signed (we can help you with this service if needed)
- Original Opinion Letter issued by an Ontario lawyer (we can help you with this service if needed)
