To apostille documents in Toronto

If you wish to apostille a document in Ontario, Canada, you must ensure your document has been issued by the government of Ontario or that it has been notarized in Ontario. In Canada you may only apostille documents that have been issued inside Canada and the purpose of the apostille is for that document to be recognized internationally in other countries.

Apostilled documents are neeeded when those documents are going to be used outside of Canada or when a consulate or embassy in Canada requests it for a procedure, for example: dual nationality, marriage, birth registration, visas, passports, etc….

If the document is to be used in a country that is part of the Hague Convention, in that case the consulate of that country doesn’t need to authenticate it. The apostilled document may be brought directly to the country where it will be used in. From Latin American countries, the only country that is not part of the convention is Cuba.

You may read the official information about Ontario apostilles at this link https://www.ontario.ca/page/authenticate-document-use-outside-canada

Translations

If the document you wish to apostille is in Spanish, it must be accompanied by a Canadian official English or French translation (ODS won’t authenticate documents that are only in Spanish without an official translation). If you need any help with a translation we are happy to help you with an official translation. You may send us an email to adriana.whiteside@gmail.com or whiteside777@gmail.com or send us a message by Whatsapp at (647) 573 4831 with a copy of your documents and we will give you a no-commitment quote. All our translations are ready to be apostilled. You may see an example clicking here.

Authentications at Foreign AffairsQuite often official translations are required when the country where they are going to be used requires you provide an official translation in the local language. For example, if an original Canadian document is going to be used in Ecuador or Colombia or Mexico, it could be the case that you are asked to present the apostilled original (or notarized copy) document plus the apostilled Spanish translation as well.

Apostille Fee

The cost of the apostille at the ODS government’s office  is $16 per notarized document or $32 if it’s an original Ontario government issued document (such as birth certificates, death certificates, etc…). That is something that you yourself may go and do at the ODS office.

Verification of the Apostille Online:

Once you have the apostilled document, you may verify it using the following link https://www.officialdocuments.mgcs.gov.on.ca/en-US/validity-check/  . You are going to need the apostille number and the issue date.
